Expand The West Oakland Literacy Hub.

In Oakland, California- where our work is rooted—the statistics are staggering. Fewer than 1 in 5 Black children are reading at grade level, and only 18.6% of Latinx students are considered proficient readers. These numbers represent more than data, they reflect a literacy crisis affecting our most vulnerable communities.

At 3Ls The Academy, our mission is to eradicate disproportionate literacy outcomes for Black and Brown students by creating inclusive, community-centered learning spaces. We believe that literacy is love in action—and every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Thanks to last year’s donors, we opened The West Oakland Literacy Hub, our first site under the Sister School Model. Through this experience, we saw firsthand how powerful it is when literacy support is rooted in the neighborhood, built with the community, for the community. We quickly realized: this model must grow.

That’s why, in 2025, our Literacy Loves Campaign is focused on expanding the West Oakland Literacy Hub and launching our next literacy site at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary. This is more than a campaign, it’s a movement to plant, grow, and scale our literacy model in every neighborhood that needs it.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to fuel this expansion, bringing books, educators, culturally responsive programming, and hope to more children than ever before.

But we can't do it alone. Your support is what makes this work possible.

Every dollar you give helps us deepen our roots in Oakland communities—supporting literacy hubs that transform not only how children learn, but how they see themselves and their future.

Join us in building a future where literacy is a right, not a privilege.

Donate today, and be part of the story that changes everything.
